10. Are LED displays energy-efficient?

Yes — especially when using modern architectures such as common cathode, COB, and flip-chip. These technologies significantly reduce heat output and power consumption.

At The LED Studio, we go a step further with Eclipse, our intelligent power-management software. Eclipse dynamically optimises brightness and energy usage based on real-time content and ambient conditions, delivering consistently high visual performance while minimising wasted power.

11. How long does an LED installation take?

Installation times vary depending on the type and scale of the project. Our all-in-one solutions can typically be installed within 1–2 days, while larger, customised systems naturally take longer due to their complexity and the level of integration involved.

Every installation includes full configuration, calibration, testing, and sign-off, along with all the processes required to ensure the display performs exactly as it should. We don’t cut corners — and we don’t rush. Precision matters, and taking the time to do it properly is what guarantees a flawless, long-lasting result.

12. Can LED be used in bright rooms or sunlight?

Yes. LED is engineered to stay bright, vibrant and clearly visible even in challenging environments where projection or LCD would struggle. With high brightness levels — often measured in thousands of nits — LED maintains clarity and impact in high-ambient-light spaces, large open areas, and environments where other technologies simply can’t compete.

13. What content works best on LED displays?

Any high-resolution content, but LED particularly excels with:

  • Motion graphics
  • Presentations
  • Video and brand content
  • Teaching materials
  • Data

Did you know we also offer Content-as-a-Service (CaaS) as an additional option? Our specialised in-house team of content designers and motion specialists can create truly mind-blowing visuals that make your screen — and your story — really shine.

15. What’s the difference between indoor vs outdoor LED?

Indoor LED:

Designed for environments where viewers are close to the screen. Indoor LED typically uses fine pixel pitches to deliver high clarity, detail, and smooth gradients at short viewing distances. Brightness levels are lower and more controlled, ensuring comfortable visibility without glare in indoor lighting conditions. These displays are optimised for meeting rooms, retail, auditoriums, control rooms, broadcast spaces, and any setting where visual detail matters.

Outdoor LED:

Built to withstand the elements. Outdoor LED features higher brightness levels — often several thousand nits — to stay clear and vibrant in direct sunlight. Modules are fully weatherproof, engineered to handle rain, wind, humidity and temperature extremes. With larger pixel pitches and powerful luminance, outdoor systems are designed for long-distance visibility, making them ideal for stadiums, large-format signage, building façades, transportation hubs, and roadside advertising.

16. Does LED reduce ongoing AV costs for schools?

Yes. LED reduces:

  • Lamp replacements
  • Colour recalibration
  • Image distortion issues
  • Maintenance call-outs
17. Is Unity compatible with Teams, Zoom, Webex, and VC platforms?

Absolutely. Unity works seamlessly with all major conferencing platforms.

18. Will LED introduce fan noise in meeting rooms?

In most cases, no — or very minimal. Modern indoor LED displays are engineered for quiet environments and often use fanless or ultra-low-noise cooling systems, operating comfortably below the typical background noise of a meeting room.

If fans are present, they run at very low decibel levels, ensuring they don’t interfere with conversations, presentations, or video calls. We always specify solutions suitable for quiet spaces.

19. How energy-efficient and cool-running is modern LED technology?

Today’s advanced LED is a true marvel of intelligent design and groundbreaking pixel engineering. These systems run cool to the touch and can offer up to 40% lower energy consumption compared with traditional SMD technology when operating at around 600 nits.

Thanks to their low BTU output, there’s no need to increase cooling in the surrounding environment — a hidden cost saving often overlooked, including reductions in air-conditioning usage. It’s a smarter choice that enhances performance while remaining both environmentally conscious and cost-efficient.

20. Can LED support wide-viewing meeting room layouts?

Yes. Ultra-wide 21:9 options are designed for modern “Front Row” layouts.

21. What is Flip-Chip and why does it matter?

Flip-Chip is an advanced LED architecture where the LED chip is mounted face-down onto the substrate rather than connected with traditional wire bonds. This direct connection allows heat to move away from the LED far more efficiently, reducing stress on the components and improving overall performance.

Compared with wire-bond SMD, Flip-Chip delivers:

  • Better heat dissipation – keeping the LED cool, stable, and more reliable.
  • Longer lifetime – reduced thermal stress means fewer failures and a longer operational lifespan.
  • Stronger colour stability – colours stay consistent and uniform over time, even at higher brightness levels.
  • Higher efficiency – more of the power goes into brightness rather than heat, improving energy performance.

The result is a more durable, efficient, and visually precise LED display — ideal for environments where clarity, longevity, and stability are essential.

22. What is “common cathode”?

Common cathode is an advanced LED power architecture in which each colour channel (red, green and blue) receives only the precise voltage it needs, rather than being uniformly over-supplied. By delivering targeted power instead of a single shared voltage, the system reduces excess heat, lowers overall power consumption, and drives higher operating efficiency. The result is cooler, more stable and more energy-efficient performance — especially beneficial for large-format LED walls where thermal management and long-term reliability are critical.

23. What brightness should I choose?

Brightness requirements depend on the environment and how much ambient light is present. As a guide:

  • Indoor: 600–1,200 nits
  • Education / Corporate spaces: 800–1,000 nits for clear visibility without glare
  • Outdoor: 3,000–10,000 nits to compete with daylight and changing weather conditions

We’ll always advise on the best brightness level for your specific space and carry out a proper site survey to ensure optimal performance.

24. How does viewing distance affect display choice?

The shorter the viewing distance, the lower the pixel pitch needed.
